Please note: Clinical Psychologists do not prescribe medication for ADHD - medication is prescribed by a Psychiatrist. Psychiatrists conduct their own ADHD assessment and may or may not take a Clinical Psychologist's report into consideration when they do this. Therefore, if your primary aim is to obtain medication to treat ADHD, your best course of action is to visit your GP for a referral to consult directly with a Psychiatrist.
We will arrange a time for Lisa to have a short chat with you to discuss what you are hoping to achieve with your assessment. In some cases, an assessment may not be the best solution to your goal. Regardless, Lisa will do her best to help you on the right path.
If both you and Lisa agree that an assessment would be in your best interest, you can proceed to book an assessment. Assessments take place over two mornings, one week apart.
There are some pre-assessment forms and questionnaires to be completed at least one week before the first appointment. Lisa will also ask you if you have access to any school reports that you can bring along to your first appointment.
This first day is a semi-structured interview (less formal than it sounds!) around the experience of Autism, which you are more than welcome to bring someone close to you along to - a partner, family member, friend, etc.
After the first day, Lisa will email you some further questionnaires to complete at least two-days before you meet again.
The second day is an informal chat about your life and history, to understand you a bit better. That is then followed by a semi-structured interview (again, less formal than it sounds!), looking at the detailed experience of ADHD.
If Lisa has any further questions, she will follow up with you via phone, email, Zoom, or face-to-face – whichever you prefer.
After Lisa has all the information she requires, she will write a comprehensive report, detailing the outcomes of the assessment. The report will contain recommendations for further assistance/support, regardless of whether a diagnosis or diagnoses have been made.
A number of weeks after the first appointment, you will meet for Lisa to deliver the report to you and provide you with feedback from the assessment. At this appointment you can ask any questions you may have about the outcomes and/or the process.
